Taj Ganges, Varanasi

Project Site:
The project is located in the Nadesar Palace compound, owned by the Maharaja of Benaras. It overlooks river Varuna. A large number of Mango trees existed at site. Conceptualised by late Architect Piloo Mody, the project was carried forward by Architect Sharat Das in late 1970s. The rule set by Architect Piloo Mody that no tree shall be cut at site for the construction of the Hotel has been followed in Design and execution of the project.
Design Action Group performed in the role of Associate Architects for the addition of the 5th floor in the year 1992.

Project:
This centrally air-conditioned hotel was commissioned in early 1980s and the addition of 5th floor was taken up in 1990.
The addition of the 5th floor was a great construction management challenge as it had to be built while the Hotel continued to operate. The Engineering Services placed at the terrace level had to be moved by one floor, without any interruption in the functioning of the Hotel.
20 Guest Rooms were added on the 5th Floor and the Lobby at the Ground Floor was enlarged.

Role of DAG:
Architecture , Co-ordination of Engineering Services and Periodic Supervision
